ShoreNewsToday: Brigantine Fire Department remembers Sept. 11

The City of Brigantine Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department responded to 25 fire calls and 110 emergency medical service calls Sept. 4-17.

On occasion we are asked about the two flags that fly adjacent to the statues depicting the twin towers, because they look to be faded American flags. The American flag flies on a larger pole, in front of the memorial, and the two flags adjacent to the memorial that fly lower than the United States flag are known as the “flag of heroes” and the “flag of honor.” The hHeroes flag lists the names of all the first responders killed on that tragic day, including 343 firefighters, while the honor flag lists the names of every person who was killed in those terrorist attacks, not only in New York City, but also at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
