Flag of Honor – Afghanistan

John,

I have attached a picture of our Platoon out here in Afghanistan. Once again I can’t thank you enough for what you’re doing to keep everyone’s memory alive. My Marines decided to take the picture on today’s date to try and show you how much of a impact this day has had on their lives and will forever hold a special place in their heart. Thanks again John I really appreciate your generosity.

Tim,

What a great photo. I just returned from Ground Zero in NYC where I listened as the families read the names of those killed in the attacks. It never easy.

Know how much you all are appreciated back here. Everyone talks about “our military” with AWE. In a world that uses the term “hero” too casually, you are the true definition of the word.

We will get the photo up on the website in the next few days. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To whom it may concern,

Hi! My name is Tim Blodgett I am Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps currently serving my fourth tour between Iraq and Afghanistan. I am currently in Afghanistan and noticed a flag that was flying here at one of our bases. Is had this e-mail on it and I’d have to say was one of the most touching flags I had ever seen. I am a combat veteran from Connecticut and was very much affected, as everyone else was, by the events of September 11th. I remember I was senior in High School and I held a candle light vigil the night of September 11th with over 200 people from my High School to talk about the affects of September 11th and what everyone was going to do to help. I made a promise to myself to defend this country against all enemies both foreign and domestic. I had never once thought about joining the Marine Corps prior to that but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am proud of what these men and women are doing over here and the sacrifices they are making every day to better the United States for generations to come. The flag that I saw over here was a American Flag that had everyone’s name who had lost their lives in the September 11th attacks. I would be honored if I could find a way to get that flag which would be a deep hearted remembrance to me of how strong America really is and all the people who lost their lives on that tragic day that they were heroes who will never be forgotten. I look forward to your response. Thank You!

Sincerely,

Staff Sergeant Blodgett, Timothy
