Flag of Honor Presented on Flag Bridge
Merry Christmas John!
I wanted to get these pictures to you as soon as I got them! Commodore Allard of the USS Nassau presented my dad this morning. “WE FLEW THE FLAG OVER NASSAU IN THE CENTRAL ARABIAN GULF AND PRESENTED IT TO YOUR DAD ABOUT 1245 OUR TIME CHRISTMAS DAY (0445 YOUR TIME).” I have attached pictures of the small ceremony on the Flag Bridge.” This is part of the email my dad sent to me this morning from his point of view: “Thank you so much for your gift to me this afternoon. I’m still at a loss for words. My name was called over the ship’s announcing system, “LCDR Murtland, your presence is requested on the Flag Bridge”. Usually that’s not a good thing – often means something is wrong or I’m in trouble. I run up there – all out of breath – and find the entire staff all crammed on the bridge. The commodore asks me to get over beside him, then to sit in his chair. Then he reads this amazing e-mail from you, and what you had requested. You big dummy, you got your dad teary-eyed, along with nearly everyone else on the bridge! He then unfolded the flag and we held it up for the pictures.” I want to again thank you so much for making this such a memorable day, not just for me and my family, but for my dad who is thousands of miles away, and the crew that was present on the Flag Bridge with him. I’ll never know how to repay you for making this happen and for your generosity. Thanks again so so much and I hope you have the Merriest Christmas possible this year! I know mine already is! Thanks again!
God Bless and Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
Jenny
