We shall never forget – a tribute to 9/11

‘Flag of Heroes’ honors all emergency personnel who died on 9/11.

As the 8th anniversary of the attack on the Twin Towers in New York City approaches, it is worth remembering the hundreds of public servants who lost their lives in the inferno that followed.

The list of heroes includes firefighters, policemen, commissioners and other public servants from different branches of government.

A memorial in the form of a replica of the American flag adorns a wall at the entrance to the City of Liberty Fire Station, on Lakeland Drive. It is called the “Flag of heroes,” and is aptly named.

The flag is unique in that the names of approximately 450 men and women who lost their lives ware embroidered in the seven red stripes of the flag.
